Burning Man Always Sells Out. Why Not This Year?
Burning Man is usually one of those events you need to snag tickets for within minutes of them going on sale, but this year? Things are different. With just days before the festival kicks off in the Nevada desert, tickets are still up for grabs, a first since 2011.
For a bit of background, Burning Man started in San Francisco in 1986 before shifting to the Nevada desert, where over 75,000 people normally gather for a wild week of radical self-expression, art, and "Mad Max"-style costumes. But for 2024, that number’s dropping to around 70,000.
So why the slowdown? Blame it on a mix of post-pandemic inflation (even for the Burner crowd) and recent weather disasters. Last year’s downpours turned the desert into a muddy mess, stranding festival-goers, and 2022 was just too hot to handle.
It’s not just Burning Man feeling the heat—festivals and concerts across the globe have been struggling this year. Even Coachella saw a dip in ticket sales, and plenty of artists had to cancel or cut prices for their US tour.
Despite some criticism of the event losing its original “edge” (hello, commercialization and VIP culture), Burning Man is still one of the most unforgettable festivals on the planet. With its iconic art, wild vibes, and that sense of community, we’re betting the magic isn’t gone forever—it just needs a little spark to reignite!
Got to Burning Man Festival
Each year, at the end of August, some 80,000 people descend on the temporary city of 'Black Rock', in the heart of the Nevada Desert, for an epic event like no other!
