King’s Day

Get dressed up in orange, and experience the vibrant festivities of Holland’s biggest street party!

Held once a year to commemorate the birth of the reigning King Willem-Alexander, King’s day, is a national holiday and one of the Netherlands’ biggest celebrations. Although the event is celebrated throughout the country, it is in the capital where the festivities are most extravagant, with over half a million orange-clothed people taking to its streets and canals every year, for a host of parties, street markets and celebrations!

Kings Day 2021

On Tuesday, 27 April 2021, the Kings Day celebrations will once again take over the city of Amsterdam, and, after the muted (mostly online) celebrations of 2020, organisers are hoping for a return to normality, with the usual array of festivities, parties, and of course street markets for which the day is renowned!

Faq?

Although most of the official King’s Day celebrations take place on the street and are free and unticketed, there are also events and parties held on boats, and in bars, clubs, and venues throughout the city, most of which will require you to book tickets in advance.

Amsterdam is one of the best connected cities in Europe and daily direct flights are available from throughout the UK through a host of airlines including British Airways, KLM, Easyjet and Ryanair

Although the festivities only last for 24 hours, Amsterdam has a wealth of things to do and see, so we recommend spending at least 3 days there.

Along with Amsterdam, the country's major cities of Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and Eindhoven hold large-scale King’s Day celebrations.
