Visit an active volcano

Situated at the centre of Nicaragua’s largest national park...

...Masaya is one of the country’s most active volcanoes, and is home to a series of summit craters, including ‘Santiago’ a vast, open crater, dubbed ‘The Gates of Hell’ due to its lake of bubbling lava. The nearby city of Granada is home to a number of operators who can arrange a trip to the volcano and crater. It is best visited during the evening or nighttime when the bright orange lava contrasts dramatically with the darkness.

Surf in the Pacific

Nicaragua’s Pacific coast boasts some of the best waves in the Americas, and is a popular haunt for some of the world’s best surfers.

They tend to visit between May-November, when the swells are at their biggest. Relax in a volcanic lagoon

The stunning Apoyo lagoon is situated in a crater of a dormant volcano within a beautiful nature reserve, home to a spectacular array of flora and fauna.
