Follow in the footsteps of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara through the Sierra Maestra jungle mountain range to conquer Cuba’s highest mountain Pico Turquino and enjoy stunning views of the Carribean sea while you’re at it.

The preferred starting point is Santo Domingo and from there it’s a gruelling 18km of ascents and descents and then more ascents until you reach the top. Don’t panic though there is a shelter at which you will spend a night either before or after reaching the summit.

Chocolate farms of Baracoa

Baracoa is the oldest town in Cuba and one of the only places where the French had a lasting impact

so it’s no surprise that it is the best place to find good food in Cuba, not just the chocolate but that is the main event.

The Cocoa industry went through its ups and downs and nearly died out but was revived by non-other than Che Guevara in his position as Minister of Industry in 1963.
