After breakfast you'll be picked up and driven to the starting point of the Inca trail, to begin your ascent to the ancient Incan citadel.
Carving your way through dense forests and cascading waterfalls, you'll take in the bountiful Andean flora and fauna, with colourful plants and birds at every turn.

Day 3 - Wayllabamba Camp to Paqaymayo Camp

Your day begins early with a spot of breakfast, then it's time to make the long, steep ascent to Warmiwañusca (the highest point of the trek at 4,198m) better known as 'Dead Woman’s Pass'. A challenging trek, you should be prepared for steep terrain and strong Andean weather (blazing sun or cold winds) near the pass, but this is tempered by the spectacular views on offer throughout.

You'll reach your camp in the afternoon, giving you plenty of time to rest and recoup, ready for the following day.

Day 4- Paqaymayo Camp to Phuyupatamarca or Wiñay Wayna

Continuing along the trail you'll cross the 3,950m Runquraqay pass, where, if conditions are good you'll enjoy dramatic views of the snow-tipped Cordillera Vilcabamba mountains. You'll continue on, ascending gently through scenic cloud forests before reaching the second pass of the day where you'll navigate original Incan constructions, and take in breathtaking views of the Urubamba Valley.

At 3,650m you'll arrive at the ruins of Phuyupatamarca, the "town above the clouds." where you can set up camp, or alternatively continue on for a further 1.5 hrs to the Wiñay Wayna ruins ("forever young").

The crowning moment has arrived and you'll finally get to step through the Sun Gate and bask in the spectacular wonder that is Machu Picchu. Overflow your camera's storage capacity snapping the ornate details of this ancient ruin and capturing the Wayana Picchu (little peak) that has become the iconic photograph that resonates with travellers everywhere. The cocktail of endorphins from the long climb, the unassailable height and sense of stepping among the clouds, and the sheer marvel that is this legendary citadel make for a unique experience that has to be felt first hand to be understood.
