How difficult is the Welsh 3000s?
The Welsh 3000s, one of the most iconic and epic challenges on these shores, involves scaling all of Wales' 3000+ feet mountains, (that's fifteen in total) in just 24 hours!
If you're thinking "that sounds grueling" you'd be right, but don't be dissuaded, this isn't a challenge designed only for professional mountaineers with decades of experience under their belt, in fact, thousands of amateurs complete it every single year, and with the right preparation, maybe you can too!
Just how difficult is the Welsh 3000s?
All fifteen of the peaks are conveniently located within a small area of northwest Wales, in the stunningly beautiful Snowdonia National Park.
Getting from one mountain to the next is fairly quick and straightforward, and thus, with the necessary preparation and planning, the right guide, and a can-do-attitude, scaling them all in one day is highly achievable.
What level of fitness will I need for the Welsh 3000s?
Impossible it might not be, but the challenge certainly shouldn't be underestimated. It encompasses around 50km of hiking in total and an ascent of nearly 4000M! On top of that, you can expect some steep inclines and plenty of uneven terrain, not to mention (in typical British style) potentially unpredictable weather!
It's therefore designed for fairly seasoned hikers who are able to climb mountains at a steady pace and are comfortable with heights. As a guide, if you're able to complete a half marathon in under 2 hours, then this challenge is for you.
