Leading Hotel Group to launch 23.59 check out

With the reopening of all hospitality in England just a few weeks away, one of the UK's leading hotel and resort groups has announced the launch of an 11.59 check-out time for guests.

The UK-based group, IGH (InterContinental Hotels Group) has over 5000 hotels globally, including, over 360 across the UK and Ireland, encompassing brands such as Kimpton, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, and Holiday Inn.

The scheme will run for a period of just under two weeks (and will be limited to weekday stays) and though not all of the group's UK hotels will participate in the scheme, so far almost 100 have signed up, including, Crowne Plaza London Docklands, Manchester's Kimpton Clocktower hotel, and the InterContinental Edinburgh - The George.

The group hopes this addition will incentivise potential guests after May 17 when the third phase of the UK government's lockdown plan will be completed (this includes the reopening of hotels for nonessential stays, the reopening of indoor drinking and dining, and the welcoming of international tourists from a few select destinations).

May 17 will also see the ban lifted on non-essential international travel, though initially at least, the list of approved destinations is likely to be a short one, and thus staycations are expected to remain the holiday of choice for many Brits during the first half of the summer, which should provide a much-needed boost to the UK's hospitality and tourism industries.

It means a one-night stay will be extended from the typical 20 hours (from check-in to check-out time) to a potential 33 hours – offering plenty of time to discover the local area, do some sightseeing or simply enjoy the hotel’s facilities.
